Joy
2021
Acrylic, house paint, graphite, pastels on canvas - 36” x 24”
Joy isn’t a state of consciousness, but a state of being despite one’s circumstances. What might be the grounding factors around Joy? This diptych was done in meditation with the verse from the Song of Solomon,
“Place me like a seal over your heart,
like a seal on your arm;
for love is as strong as death,
its jealousy unyielding as the grave.
It burns like blazing fire, like a mighty flame.”
Most people associate the Song of Solomon with the consummate love of God, however, I wanted to understand from the depths of my own heart what it meant to operate from a place of “joy” through the understanding in myself as the bride of Christ. How might I experience “Joy” in this visceral and consuming love of His?
